AT&T enlists employees to oppose Net neutrality
Advocacy groups say AT&T has gone too far in its lobbying efforts to oppose the Federal Communications Commission’s new proposed Net neutrality regulations.
This week AT&T’s top lobbyist Jim Cicconi sent a memo to managers urging them to encourage their families and friends “to join the voices telling the FCC not to regulate the Internet.”
Talk about transparency! In their haste to get their new Web site up and running, the Republican Party has posted online a slew of things you wouldn’t normally expect.
Such as instructions on how to operate the Web site.

Just because there’s a recession, it doesn’t mean you can’t find your dream job. So allow me to direct your boundless ambition toward an ad on Craigslist’s Calgary site.
While many people scour Craigslist to see if Starbucks or Bed, Bath and Beyond might be seeking additions to their cheery teams, the poster of this ad is searching for an altogether more adventurous type, proudly announcing “Astronaut Needed (Northern Alberta).” Is that the cough of a million scoffs I hear? Perhaps. But this is truly an interesting opportunity, to say the least. Just look at the first, enticing sentence of the ad: “Astronaut needed for experimental flight to Titan.”

To achieve sexy buttons, Google has implemented CSS features that are currently not part of any standard and are only supported by Webkit based browsers (ie. Chrome and Safari). To experience sexy buttons on Google, you will need the Google browser (or that other one). The two specific features that are being used to enable sexy buttons are -webkit-border-radius and -webkit-gradient. Both were implemented by Webkit developers as new CSS features over a year ago – and it is hard to argue against their usefulness (where would we be today without rounded corners?).
Browser developers are resorting to going their own way with implementing new features because the standardization process is nothing short of a clusterfuck. In 1996, back in the wild west days of the web, the CSS1 recommendation was published – but the two major browser maker at the time were at each others throats and didn’t pay much attention to it. It only took another two years to get the next version, CSS2, to recommendation status. It was this version, and more importantly, support from the browser makers, that spurred the widespread adoption of CSS and the separation of markup from style on the websites. The first drafts for CSS3 was published in 2001 – and today, a full 8 years later, it is still a work in progress as nobody seems to be able to agree to anything again.

A study on 1.5 million people found a woman’s level of education was more important than a man’s when it came to the chance of him living a long life.
The authors suggested that better educated women may be more aware of healthy diets and medical treatments, thereby influencing their partner’s lifespan.

'Degrassi Goes Hollywood' coming this summer!
In the first ever “Degrassi: The Next Generation” movie, the Degrassi students venture to L.A. via school bus with hopes to score parts in the fictional film, “Mewesical High,” a musical directed by Jason Mewes (Clerks) under the mentorship of Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma).
The special airs Sunday, August 30 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
“Degrassi Goes Hollywood” catches up with Paige (Lauren Collins), who is working as a personal assistant to “The Shores” reality television star Hailey Montel (Mary Ashton), understanding that in life you work from the ground up. But when Hollywood hands Paige a shortcut to fame and fortune, she jumps at the opportunity and takes Marco (Adamo Ruggiero) and Ellie (Stacey Farber) along for the ride.
Back in Toronto, Manny (Cassie Steele) has immersed herself in her university theatre program and is committed to becoming an “actor of substance.” But when Manny blows an opportunity to star in Mewes’ feature, she decides to take the road trip to L.A. to win the role and realize her dream.
“Degrassi Goes Hollywood” was partially filmed in Los Angeles. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton and Fall Out Boy bass player Pete Wentz make cameo appearances.
